Okay, So I work in retail so I am selling beds, furniture and pretty much anything else for your home. My manager always leaves me by myself to run the store (I've been here 6 months) I cant even do anything by myself he has to okay everything. That means I have to call him on his cell if I need to do something. I've unloaded trucks by myself and im only a 21 year old female who is 155lbs. He's always late to relieve me even when I need to get out of here like doc appointment. He writes his own checks and recently he bounced my check pretty bad and is refusing to pay the fee's and do what he has to do to get the check cleared. He also sits here and yells at me because I got evicted had to move right away and could not come in (i told him once I found out). So, he had to run the store by himself he is also the owner. I have a second job and dont really need to stay here but the money i need. I'm really thinking about just telling him to shove it that i quit and to take him to court. any advice

  1. If your other job could support you for a time if you live frugally for a bit (and if future job prospects look good), then I'd say get the heck out of dodge. IMO a person's sanity and dignity is worth just as much as the paycheck...

I'd probably skip the court thing though unless it's a really big issue that you'd be sure to win. Because otherwise, no need to get yourself into a deeper mess and maybe end up with court debt.

  2. Before you quit, find a second job.  Never burn bridges.  When you quit just tell him you found another job.  He knows why you are leaving he just doesn't care about you.  Some people are like that they just use people up for as long as they will take it.  It will do you no good to get into a shouting match, just find the job and tell him you are leaving.  Good Luck.

  3. You need to get out of there.   And he legally owes you the money for the bounced check.  You could take him to small claims court, or you could call the Labor Board.  Every state has one.  They will not allow him to fool around with your wages.

    Good luck to you.

  4. I don't normally advise people to quit their jobs without careful thought and planning, but I think you need to find another job and move on.  You have no one to complain to, no policies to protect you, and he's not going to change.  You might try having a very frank discussion with him, but be prepared to quit if he wont' listen to you.

  5. I suggest that you find another job and quit, you have only been working there for six months so it should not be a huge loss to you. Also you may want to find a way to inform the public about his business practices.
