I recently bought a new HDtv and then had Directv install a new HD reciever. Problem im having is, is all of the HD channels arent comming in 100 % of the time. Alot of times its a black screen saying "searching for sattellite signal." Funny thing is, I can try and pick up FX in HD and it will have that error message, and then I can switch over to ESPNHD and pick that up with no problem. Espn HD always comes in. What could be causing this? I have tryed resetting the box a few times with no help.

  1. Our family has DirecTV, and we had this problem for a while ourselves. It's possible that you need a part called a broadband converter (or "BBC"), which I believe is required to be able to view the HD channels.

If you go to www.directv.com/bbc, you'll get the "HD Checklist" page, which will help you check to make sure you have the necessary DirecTV items. If you still have a problem, call DirecTV and tell them you need help determining why you're not receiving the HD channels.

  2. what's going on is that the dish isn't receiving the proper hd signal from one of the satellites. Some of the older hd channels are still on the original satellites mixed in with the general channels. ESPNHD is one of those, I believe.

Call customer support and explain what's going on. They can walk you through some steps that might bring the signal back easily, or, as I suspect, you may need your dish to be realigned.
