Need help with .HACK. Can't figure out what's what?

I plan to watch the anime for .HACK but apparently there are like 18 thousand ones... Could anybody tell me the order the .HACK series so that I know which one to watch first?

  1. I got bored of .hack, but I didn't actually want to get an order, I just jumped in to the game .hack//G.U., which got me into .hack//roots.


  2. To tell you the truth, you won't understand a thing unless you played the.Hack games first since some animes are sequels to the game.

    That's the storyline order. Release order is different, if I remember correctly.
