  1. M - Man watches the show

W - Wife watches the show

    P(M)=0.4

    P(W)=0.5

    P(M/W)=0.7

    a) P(M and W) = P(W) P(M/W)

    = (0.5)(0.7)=0.35

    b) P(W and M) = P(M) P(W/M)

    0.35 = 0.4 P(W/M)

    P(W/M) = 0.35/0.40

    =35/40 = 7/8

  2. qa

    P(man watch | wife watch)

    = P(couple watch) / P(wife watch)

    = P(couple watch) / 0.5

    = 0.7

    P(couple watch) = 0.5 * 0.7 = 0.35

    qb

    P(wife watch | husband watch)

= P(couple watch) / P(man watch) <-- assuming all men watching are married

    = 0.35 / 0.4

    = 0.875

  3. P(Man)=0.4

    P(Woman)=0.5

    P(Man/Woman)=0.7

    a) P(Man and woman)=P(woman)*P(Man/woman)

                                    =0.5*0.7=0.35

    b) P(woman/man)=P(man and woman)/P(man)

                              =0.35/0.4=0.875

I hope this can be useful

  4. I did not complete the class in probability. I had to drop out and take another class in place of it. It just never made sense to me. I was a senior EE major, and failing probability. Good luck, give me y=mx+b

    I can solve that one.

    a: guessing 0.4 x 0.5 = .2

b: more guessing, same as above .2
