  1. x = 5t^2, x = 4t

    They both equal x, so set them equal to each other:

    5t^2 = 4t (subtract 4t from both sides)

    5t^2 - 4t = 0 (factor out a t)

    t(5t - 4) = 0 (zero-product property)

    t = 0 or 5t - 4 = 0

    t = 0 or 5t = 4

    t = 0 or t = 4/5

    And now solve for x:

    x = 4t

    x = 4(0)

    x = 0

    x = 4t

    x = 4(4/5)

    x = 16/5

    ANSWER: x = 0, t = 0; x = 16/5, t = 4/5
