  2. I'll say spider roll (crab, nori, rice , spicy mayo and lots of avocado)

  3. salmon sushi

    ebi sushi

    taro sushi

  4. that is such a subjective question..depends on what you like. Many people like to start with rolls such as California Roll or Rainbow Roll (Cali roll with sliced of tuna, salmon, and shrimp on top typically).

I'd suggest that or trying something simple like nigiri (basically fish on rice) ; something like salmon or maguro (tuna) is good. Himachi is divine.

It's fun to share when you go out for sushi. If you have someone that knows/likes it, go with them and have them order a few different things that are a little more basic (like the above).

I am drawn to both the traditional (nigiri/sashimi) and fusion 'specialty' rolls equally. The mix of flavors and textures can be astounding ; sweet and spicy; crunchy and mushy; hints of citrus or cilantro; jabanero with mango, etc. I love the contrasts. I'd suggest getting one of these (look at one that has alot of stuff you like) after you have tasted some of the more basic stuff and enjoy it.

Also..well, I'm really a sushi snob , but seriously...don't go cheap on sushi. You will be glad that you didn't.

You should find a sushi buddy..I love taking people out for their first sushi experience :-) Grab some sake and chill out...be ready for a very nice long, relaxing dinner.

If you can't do that, you can also sit at the sushi bar, they're very cool and won't lead you astray (well, the ladies & gents I know wouldn't).

Some pretty mild things...salmon, maguro, himachi, ahi, sablefish, escolar, tobiko (little eggs sometimes flavored)

Little more intense, but yummy...mussels,eel,mackerel,tako (octopus; it's chewy, I'm not a huge fan, it's ok),salmon roe (ew ;) jk, alot of people like)

I wouldn't even worry about the sea urchins, etc at this point.

  5. I think its good to start with something simple like shrimp or crab or spicy tuna if you have never had it before. Spicy tuna is actually one of my faves!
