Need help with TV problem?

My friends TV does not work. We opened it yesterday and found that the fuse is blown. Today he went out and bought a couple. Every time he puts in the new fuse and turns it on it pops. Why does it do this? What is the problem? Are we putting in the fuse the wrong way? Thank you for your time.

  1. You can't put a fuse in the wrong way, all it is is a wire--a protection device. Sounds like you have a short somewhere past the fuse. This could be ANYTHING. Maybe power supply, maybe cap/transistor or something else has failed. If you "shorted" out where the fuse goes then other components and possibly the bad component would likely burn up. If your TV is > 10 years old I'd recycle it and get another one. Otherwise you are probably best trying to bring it to a repair center but that will probably set you back $50-$150 minimum.

    Good luck.

  2. A common mistake when replacing the mains fuse is to use a standard fuse .

The fuse should be a DELAY FUSE !!!!

In most cases however the fuse will blow again because of a short usually in power supply or deflection circuits !!. However you may as well try the delay fuse now that you have come so far. Ask for a 5amp delay ( or slow blow ) fuse .Take the original fuse with you !!!

PS The fuse goes in either way !!!

    Cheers Pete
