Need help with a Baby's bed question?

Hi We have a 9 month old and he used to sleep in a bassinet that would attach to a foldable playyard, until 1 month ago, now that he has started standing we removed the bassinet and tried putting him to bed in the play yard itself, but he refuses to sleep in it, and we have to move him to our bed. Our Problem here is that we have a very small 1 bedroom house, and really do not have much space for the regular crib, any ideas of what we can do, Wanted to move to a larger house for the space for the Baby, but cannot afford it at the moment. Am thinking of putting a mattress in the play yard and see what happens, as he is very comfortable on our bed, and have been thinking that probably the bassinet pad is not thick enough to keep the base of the play yard from poking him. and probably that is why he wants to come to our bed, at night. Suggestions and ideas are more than welcome

  1. Small house or not, you need to make room for a proper crib.  Is it any wonder he refuses to sleep in a playpen with a 1" thick "mattress" (which is really just a piece of cardboard with a thin layer of foam over it)?  I am sure it is unbearably comfortable.  His head, neck, and spine need more support than that.

Portable cribs are fine for the occasional overnight when you are on the road, but they should never be a permanent crib.  Your child needed a proper crib with a good mattress months ago.

A makeshift mattress isn't going to do.  He needs more comfort and support than that, and you don't want to put anything in his sleeping area that is a potential suffocation or injury hazard.

  2. Before you put a matress in there try buying a twin sized memory foam and forming it to the bottom of the play yard. This will be safer than a matress in the play pen... you can even fold or cut the foam in half and double it. It will  be much safer... Good luck!

  3. gooood luck

  4. DO NOT PUT MEMORY FOAM IN A PLAYPEN! To the first poster, ever heard of SIDS? ugh. I'm sure he's comfortable in your bed. You really just have to stick to your guns and sleep train him in the playpen. Babies-r-us and target sell quilted play yard sheets which will make it more comfortable while still being safe (double up even if you have to). And a crib mattress probably wouldn't fit in a play yard.. Good luck! Consistency is the key!
