If there were 34 amino acids and DNA contained only 2 types of nitrogenous bases, what would be the minimum number of bases per codon that could code for proteins?

I tried and tried but couldn't see how to solve it. I will be thankful for any answer with a little explanation. Thanks guys!

  1. 2^2 =4 amino acids coded

    2^3 =8    "       "          "

    2^4 =16  "       "          "

    2^5 =32  "       "          "

2^6 =64 too many but okay.So 6 bases per codon is minimum.
