So, turns out I can't eat them anymore because i'm allergic. I need help with ideas for food to eat and something I can take to school to eat for lunch. I'm also a vegetarian, so if possible some foods that also don't have meat in them. Since i'm a vegetarian on top of not being able to eat gluten and casein. i'm lacking in protein and am eating a lot of carbs. If absolutely needed I could go back to eating meat, but i'd rather not if I can do with out. So if you could give me some foods that I can eat and take to school that don't have gluten, casein or meat in them that would be great.

  1. Alright well i had to go on a gluten free diet for at least three months for experiements...

    try gluten free bread..

    gluten free bagels

    gluten free pizza

    gluten free cheese puffs

    gluten free pretzels(i think)

(go to wegmans and look up their selection)

also look online for a link to buy food online because they make LOTS of things that are wheat free...

i forget the website but look around

    i feel for you

the stuff i listed is all nonmeat

  2. If you have a casein intolerance, be careful of "soy cheese" and many similar products, which do contain casein, even though they are not made from animal milk. This is added in manufacture.

Do you eat eggs? That is a possible source of protein.

If not, you are going to have to learn the different combinations of food that make up a full protein. For example whole grains plus pulses (so for example, brown rice and lentils, millet and lima beans...), rice plus sesame seeds also works. Include plenty of cashew nuts in your diet (you can get them raw, they are good for stir fries, curry or you can just roast them and eat like peanuts). They are almost a full protein by themselves.

Soy protein and quorn (made from mushrooms) are also possible protein sources.

A good book which lists all the combinations, although i'm not sure if its still in print - you may have to go to a book search service - is Diet for a Small Planet by Frances Lappe.

  3. Burgers are a great snack food even cold.  I often make carrot and lentil burgers which are delicious the next day.  Just mix up some things that you think will taste nice together and use either gluten free breadcrumbs or egg to hold them together.  Nut burgers, nut roast.  Fresh fruit of course.  Dried fruits.  A lot of Indian and Mediterranean foods are high in protein and contain no gluten.  Dolmades are a great snack.  Dukkah is a great protein filled snack (ground nuts, seeds and spices) - it's traditionally eaten with bread and olive oil, but I dip carrot sticks, celery sticks whatever instead.

I'd go to the library and look through Indian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean/tapas cookbooks and you'll get loads great of ideas.  Or go to your local ethnic deli and I bet you'll be surprised at all the delicious little bits and pieces  you can eat!

  4. Hi, I'm a gf, dairy free vegetarian as well. I was forced back onto eggs for about a year or so until I figured this out. I have relaxed a bit and will eat unfert. eggs, but it can still be very hard at times. I have started looking into egg replacers lately, mostly just so I can add to my baking "bag o tricks".

    Ok, here goes:

Bob's Red Mill has cert. GF TVP that I eat on a reg. basis. I add it into hummus and use it as a ground beef "substitute.( I can tolerate it, so I think the soy I consumed and thought myself sensitive to must be cc'd with gluten somehow.)(I can also consume fresh edame without symptoms as well, btw).

Anyway, I also like brown rice protein (it is gf and cf) and add that to fruit blended drinks with ice and fresh fruit. I was also really low on protein for a while and this is how I dealt with it since there was no soy or gluten for me!

Are you a celiac? Here is a good starting point:

If you are soy tolerant, you have it made, lol!

    Go here for bobs:

    http://www.bobsredmill.com/home.php

you can get gf oats here as well as other gf/df stuff

You can also do viactive (both the multi and the calcium are gf. but check df status) (soy, so off limits to me, but I know for sure they are gf). Please be sure to watch your calicium intake!!!
