  1. make 2 1/2 into an improper fraction

so the new problem would be

    5/2 + 2/3

get common denominator which would be 6 so multiply the first fraction by 3/3 so the denominator is 6 and multiply the 2nd one 2/2 so the denominator is 6. The new problem would be

15/6 + 4/6. Add the numerators so the answer would be 19/6

  2. the first step is to make sure that you're adding apples to apples.  The first number isn't in proper fraction form so we will change that to a fraction 2 1/2 is the same thing as 5/2 (multiply 2 by 2/2, add 1/2.)  Now we have 5/2 + 2/3, still messy right, so we need to get a common denominator.  the easiest way to do that is to multiply the denominators together (2 X 3; if the number can be reduced farther you should do it, but it won't work here)  Now we need to convert both numbers so that they have 6 as a denominator.  5/2 X 3/3 = 15/6; 2/3 X 2/2 = 4/6.  Now that everything agrees on the bottom, we can add.  15/6 + 4/6 = 19/6.  This can be reduced to 3 1/6 if you like using division.

  3. Ok, first of all you want only fractions, so to convert 2 1/2 into only a fraction you multiply the whole number (2) by the denominator (4) to get 8. Then add that onto the numerator to get 5/2.

    So now we have 5/2 + 2/3 = ?

To get them into a form where we can add/ subtract, we must make the denominators the same. To do that we must find the lowest common multiple between the two numbers.

To do that you can list out a few multiples of each number:

    2 - 4 6 8 10 12

    3 - 6 9 12 15 18

The lowest common multiple between the two numbers that we can see is 6. So we will use that as the denominator.

So now that we have increased the denominator, we must also increase the numerator (or else we would have a completely diffrent fraction).

In 5/2, to get from 2 to 6, we multiply by 3, so we do the same to the 5. That gives us 15/ 6

In 2/3, to get from 3 to 6 we multiply by 2, so we do the same to 2, to give us 4/6.

    --------------------------------------...

Now we have 15/6 + 4/6, so we just add the numerators to get 19/6, and because it cannot be simplyfied any further, you just leave it as 19/6 or you could return it into a mixed fraction by seeing how many 6's divide into 19. You can fit 3 sixs into 19 (3 x 6 = 18) without going into decimals, and you have 1/6 left over so you write the fractions as:

    3 1/6

    Hope that helps!

[Note: To find a common multiply you can also multiply both the denominators but it wont always be the lowest common denominator]

  4. 2 1/2 + 2/3 = 2 (1/2 + 2/3) [because 2 is common in both]

    = 2 [( 3 + 4 )/6]

[ when you do the factoring, you have to multiply 2 by 3 to get 6, the common denominator and then you multilply 6 individually by 1/2 and 2/3 to get 3 and 4 ]

    = 2 7/6

    = 3 1/6  [ because 7/6 = 1 1/6

    Hope this helps :)

  5. you multiply the denominator times the whole number then add 1. then u get 5 over 2, then you find a common denominator for example 6. then you have 15/6 and 4/6, and you get 19/6.

  6. first change the 2 1/2 to 5/2

      5/2+2/3=

    second find a common denominator

        15/6+4/6=

    third add the numerator

              15/6+4/6=19/6

    The answer is 19/6 or 3 1/6

  7. First make the denominator the same. Do this by multiplying the denominators into a bigger number. They both have to be the same obviously. The number you multiply with the denominator doesn't have to be the same. You can multiply the denominators by each other. 2x3=6. 6 will be the new denominator. You multiply the numerator by the number you multiplied the denominator by. Drag the whole number. It will always be the same, Unless there is an improper fraction which there isn't. Then you just add the numbers. Don't add the denominators though. Only add the numerators. Bring the denominator down to the answer. If it is improper, then fix it. Divide the denominator into the numerator. The answer is added to the whole number. The remainder is the new numerator for the fraction. Check for a simpler form.

Or you can use change the first number into an improper fraction and then change the denominators to the same thing. And then add. Next you fix the improper fraction and turn it into simplest form. Many people find this way easier.

Now you have the answer! B-) :-D

  8. you have to make your 12/3 into a the same as the half

    Let me see

first we need to write your half like this

    5/2

    times your 5/2 by 12

    60/24,

now you need your  2/3 to be outa 24 too,, so to get you 3 to a 24 you would times it by 8

which makes your 2/3 into 16/24

    we now have 60/24

    and 16/24

    sort your 60/24 out to be = 2 12/24

    add your 2 12/24 to your 16/24 = 3 4/24

so your finished answer is 3 4/24 = devided that down and youll get

    3 and 1/6

    tada

  9. First turn 2 1/2 into  5/2 by multiplying the 2s, adding the 1 and putting it over 2. Then you need common denominators. 2 and 3 have 6 in common. so 5/2 = 15/6 because you multiplied the top and bottom by 3. Then 2/3= 4/6 because you multiplied both by 2. Then add 15/6+ 4/6= 19/6 turn that back into a mixed number. 3 1/6. There's your answer.
