Need help with big virus problem!!?

Question

Recently i turned my computer on and my background was a blue screen with a box in the middle saying something like spyware detected on your computer and to get spyware protection; i forget exactly what it said. Also antivirus XP 2008 kept showing up, when i dont even have that so that was weird. Then everytime i turned my computer on a message saying something about NEWDOT kept showin up to. I ran my McAfee software and got rid of some stuff but it didnt fix the background or the NEWDOT popups or anything els really. So i ran msconfig and got rid of the NEWDOT poping up but its still on my computer and i dont know if thats bad orhow to get rid of it. For a while the spyware background went away but then i noticed i cant get into my display option to change my background display. Does any of this sound fimiliar to anybody or is there anyone who can help me fix this problem. All help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Go to start, then click it, click to open control panel, in the newer version of control pannel click performance and maintenance, and on the upper right corner of your screen you will see " System restore "  click that and select " Restore my system to an earlier date "   after this if you do not have an active virus program you will need to download  AVG free and run it.
