I'm currently working as a training specialist. I like my job but do not like the industry I am working in. I have a bachelors in social work and am considering a career change to a school counselor or academic advisor. I would like to make a move towards the education field. After doing some research, I found some jobs within the public school system and local college/universities that I am interested in. Most of these positions require a Masters degree. However, some of the job postings are not every specific in which area the Masters should be in. Some state a Masters in Counseling, Education or Higher Education, but then others aren't specific. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I would like to work in the field before I decide on a Masters degree, but I am not sure how to start out in the field when most of the positions require a Masters. What's the best way for me to get my foot in the door?

  1. I am far from an expert on this matter but I know that each state has labor department web sites and many of them have assessment tools to help narrow down what skill sets and schooling you need to help decide what schooling you need.

I have included links to a good web site name job-hunt.org  that may help you in your research.
