If you want the event to be well attended fund raising for animal charities is easiest.

If you want to make it hard work for yourself then, chose a cause that is not as popular. By doing this you will be much more appreciated though, as they receive a lot fewer donations.

Whilst you are raising money for charity, campaign for new volunteers at the same time. You can be twice as effective with the same amount of work.

The other thing to do, is not to raise money for charities themselves but raise money for a community project such as making new community gardens or plant a community orchard.

Or start up a community book and magazine exchange, toy library or second hand clothes stall which runs monthly (encourages recycling and people buy fewer new items).
