Need help with cleaning hardwood floor. We put down a new hardwood floor 3 weeks ago. A polish refinisher?

product by orange glo was used to clean it. However, it made a terrible mess. It left a film on the floor and you can several streaks. We went to Target and bought one of their floor cleaners and tried to clean the floor. It did pull up some white powder residue, but it lef the floor dull and still streaky where all the residue did not come up. What can we do to get this stuff up. Our new floor looks terrible. Its a bruce hardwood floor in a very dark vintage cherry.

I have a friend who has wood floors through out her entire house and they are always shiny and streak free and all she uses is vinegar and water. That simple. She swears buy it and says every once in a while she'll use a murphys oil but other than that just vinegar and water. Try it!!

First, a wood floor should never be wet.  Try using Bona-x hardwood floor cleaner.  It is the only thing that should be used on a hardwood floor:

Hi, It is important to regularly remove dirt and debris from your wood floors as it can wear the finish. I usually vacuum with a hard floor brush. If I don't feel like pulling out the vacuum I use a broom or swifter.

I damp mop only when it looks like it needs it with only a slightly damp mop rinsing the mop regularly. I just use warm water as we like going barefoot and I like natural products. Once in a while I use a 1/4 cup vinegar to 1 gallon water. I attach a towel to my swifter and quickly dry mop it if it is cold out and it is not drying quickly. Do not use ammonia based or oil based soaps as they dull the finish of your floor.

It is also good to use preventative maintenance such as felt pads on your furniture. Area rugs should be placed in high traffic area and at entrances to help trap dirt. An area rug placed by your sink helps with water being splashed. Any spills should be wiped up right away. Hope this helps.
