So my application is asking for courses that I am currently enrolled in, and it is asking for the course name and number (which I have) but also it asks about the credit hours? What does that mean? I go these classes everyday 5 days a week.

Please help!!

  1. it means how many credits is your class worth that you are taking? it should say how many credit or semester hours your classes are worth on your transcripts.

credit hours are also referred to as semester hours, but credit hours and semester hours are not worth the same amount, so you will have to convert.

  2. If you have a guidance counselor they will give you this info

  3. Almost all classes are worth either 3 or 4 credit hours.  The GPA is calculated by multiplying your grade by the number of credit hours, then dividing by the total number of credit hours.  So if you were taking 2 classes, Calculus (4 hours) 2/ a B and Piano (3 hours) w/ an A, your GPA would be (4*3 + 3*4)/7 = 24/7 = 3.429.  But instead, if you got an A in calculus and a B in Piano, you would have (4*4 + 3*3)/7 = 25/7 = 3.571.  What this does is make the harder classes worth more, so that an A in Piano (or any other 3 credit hour class) is not the same as an A in Calculus (or any other 4 credit hour class).

Look online or at your published course curriculum,  they will list each course and the credit hours they are worth.
