My sis is moving out so now I can paint and decorate the room like I want.

I've looked at books and paint colors etc. but I feel simply OVERWHELMED by all the choices.

I've heard that certain colors can boost your mood and I was kinda wondering if there was a color that was cheerful and refreshing (I don't know how that can be but I've heard of it).

The only color I don't like is red-orange.

Any ideas would be great!!

  1. The most cheerful colors are warm colors -- yellow, red, orange, pinks. Refreshing colors are cold colors like blue, purple and green. I would reccomend a pale blue with accents of red. Blue is relaxing and red is stimulating, so it balances out.

My room is done with white walls. It really lets you experiment, and you can change the style easily. Right now I have a beige bedspread so it looks very neutral. When I want it to look colder, I use blue curtains. A red flowered bedspread makes it warmer.

  2. We painted one long wall in our hall and the same wall in our living room  a rich caramel.  Teamed with a medium teal blue-green and a rich cream, would be cheerful yet calming.

Our hall used to be kind of gloomy and blah, but the caramel really warmed it up.  We painted the rest of the hall the rich cream.  What a difference!

  3. Maybe start with the colour of your bedspread or furniture and pick a colour that complements either or both of those items.  I've done quite a lot of painting and currently love my yellow bedroom.  It doesn't matter how dreary the weather might be it's always sunny in the morning when I wake up!  I used white as a bedspread and put a yellow and blue comforter and shams on the bed.  The blue gives a nice balance to all the yellow on the walls.  Good Luck

  4. pink and white.
