Im making a fansite for the broadway musical and movie rent, i need to know if its ok to post videos from youtube of trailers for the movie, performances, music videos, etc. as well as playing music on the site, and pictures of cast members.... i dont know if that makes any sense or if its clear enough..... but basically i need to know if i would get in trouble for copyright if i put videos and pictures from rent on my fansite?

  1. First, it's  'copyright', not 'copy right'.

The creator of the show holds the copyright. So do the individual photographers who shot any stills or videos. So you cannot just take footage and re-post it without permission. (There is ALWAYS a copyright holder to any film or photo material - usually the person who held the camera unless he was working for the creator of the show).

But, if it's a non-commercial fan site, chances are they will be delighted to hear that you are interested in helping promote their show with your fan site. Just ask first before you start stealing material from other sites, it's common courtesy.

Why not just contact the PR rep for the show, and ask them for permission to run this site with some of their material on it? They might even help you with some publicity shots and such.

    Good luck!

  2. to find out you should ask the people (email) where they got the video from and if it is copyrighted
