My family consists of my husband, myself (im pergnant) and our 16 year old son. With the rising cost of food, how can I save money? Besides coupons, they are hard to ocme by anymore and when I do find them theres nothing we ever use. Also my husband and son refuse to eat leftovers, I have tried but they "want" a different meal every evening...me I will eat anything LOL. Any suggestions?

  1. Look for specials, choose good bargains deals, choose inexpensive foods, go for unbranded goods, plant your own vegetables and fruit if possible!

  2. Get more creative with meatless dishes.  Use pasta and rice as your base and work from there.  Stir fry veggies over rice, pasta with meatless sauce etc.  We are a meatless household and spend half as much as meat eaters spend.  And No..you don't need meat to be healthy.

  3. Buy store brand items instead of brand names. the store brands are usually a little cheaper.

  4. most chain supermarkets put out a flyer once a week telling you which items are on special. Just buy the items that are on sale that week.

  5. Buy sale items or the buy one get one free deals, I never pay full price for meat, my meals revolve around the meat on sale, eat smaller meat portions. I just signed onto www.couponmom.com and got 2 $2 coupons for the instant breakfast my son has everyday and a $3 coupon for dog food my dogs eat. I'm trying to cut our food bill down too. Good Luck.

  6. Make things like chicken noodle soup from scratch or chili.  You can make a huge pot of chili and freeze it for a long time.  You could also just tell them that if they don't eat leftovers they will not eat at all.  Just kidding.

  7. Just do not sacrifice the quality of the food. Make sure you get all the necessary nutrients and vitamins. It is very important and it pays off in the long run :)

You can sacrifice the AMOUNT :) and may be variety.

  8. Check around in your area to see if there is a green market or farm stand     nearby.  You often get much better produce for a lot less money because there's no middle man, you're buying it straight from the farmer.

Also often at the end of the selling day, sellers will cut their prices just to sell off whatever is left so they don't have to load it back on their trucks.

I used to go to Haymarket in Boston on Saturday mornings and come back with enough fresh produce and fish for a whole week and beyond for 20 dollars.
