Hello, I have a slight issue. My aunt was supposed to go into the hospital for brain surgery on June 27th so I was going to fly in to help her on June 26th and made my flight with JetBlue. It turns out that she is having major complications and needs to get the surgery done this upcoming Saturday. Does anyone here know if its possible to change my flight to one so soon without a major penalty? When I looked on www.jetblue.com the penalty for changing my flight was actually more expensive than my original ticket! Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

  1. I looked into airfare to go to my brother's funeral, and some airlines offered "bereavement" fares (United? American?).  Well, Southwest was cheaper than the bereavement fares on the other airlines.  Do shop around.

PS: Often the cheapest fares have huge penalties for changing, whereas more expensive fares allow you to change with less of a penalty.  Do read the fine print on the "fare codes" - they have to spell that information out.

  2. Bereavement fares require a death certificate usually to be faxed or mailed in I thought?  you don't want it to get to that because thats proly why she is having the surgery.  Try just booking a new flight and then you will have a credit on jetblue that is valid for one year and then you can go back to check up on your aunt!!

Good luck and I hope it goes well...
