Need help with gimp?

I need some tips with gimp. With the program, some people can make the mona lisa and I can barely make anything. Anyone have some useful tips to help me it easy and awesome?

You mean lanyerds?? cause thats wat we called it in california. if u mean that u could simply start out with the box and then the twisty way. LOL!!!!

What sort of things do you want to do - create images from scratch, edit images/photos, create images using other images, etc?

Layers are a very good thing to play around with, they can be used to create images by compositing a base image with others (using tranparent backgrounds to each layer).  They can also be used for other things

- I often use this method to brighten digital camera pictures that are a little dark.

Because there are so many things you can do with it, I've found GIMP is best learned a bit at a time.  Google is your friend here, think of a project and search for "GIMP <effect you want to do>" or "GIMP tutorial <effect>" (as a previous answer mentioned).

(one tip, if you create a multi-layer image - make sure you save it in the native GIMP format as well as exporting it to jpeg, etc, as this will preserve the layers if you need to go back and edit it again, or use it as a base for another project)
