Need help with growing curly hair?

I'm a guy and need some hair style help. When I was young I had very curly hair, but over time it has turned it to an afro. I cut it many times, but it always grows back into an afro. I cut my hair yesterday and when it grows, I want it to grow into my old curly hair. What can I do to make sure into curly hair? Any product or tricks to it?

Go get it cut professionally and have them thin it out or something.

My cousin has that same prob, he usually just puts mousse and a little bit of hair spray. (but your hair has to be a little damp)
