  1. if you in the areana turn the head tward the oposite leg and sqeeze with the leg of the lead you want the horse to go into.

  2. horses are typically more balanced on one side than the other. the best thing you can do for your horse is to lunge her. first make sure she is responsive to your voice commands then start asking her to canter on the left lead. if she picks up the wrong lead bring her back to the trot and ask again. once she finally picks up the left lead reward her by letting her take a break. it will take a lot of coordination and strength for her to learn the leads so don't expect it all in one day. the more she canters on the left lead the stronger she will get and the easier it will be for you under saddle.

  3. How are you asking your horse to canter on the right lead?

Ride your horse in a twenty meter circle to the left at first and be sure you are not leaning to the inside. Push some extra weight into your right heel and move your right leg slightly back while moving your left leg slightly forward. Sit on your right hip and "kiss" to her to tell her to canter while using your outside leg as encouragement.

  4. if you bring your inside seat bone and shoulder forward she will pick up the correct lead

  5. If you are going in a circle cantering to the left and she won't go to her left lead pull her head to the right a lil that will make her reach out with her left lead. Believe me it works.

              Good Luck = )

  6. try asking her for it while on a turn or doing some small circles. tip her nose inside while lifting her shoulder up to open it up to help her.

  7. I taught three lessons yesterday where the rider was interfering with the canter depart by pulling on the inside rein.  Make sure you keep that inside hand quiet and forward and you should be successful.
