  1. I'll help with your second question:

Middlemen perform a number of functions and services:

    • they conduct research to identify target customers

    • they promote products and create consumer demand for them

    • they introduce new products to the market

    • they help manufacturers clear old inventories

    • they help manufacturers distribute their products

    • they help foreign manufacturers acquire domestic distribution

    • they serve as an intermediary between the customer and the manufacturer whenever there is a problem with the product

    • they often times service or repair the product

    • they provide instruction in the proper use of a product

    • they provide a convenient means in which to purchase the product (brick & mortar stores or online avenues)

While the use of middlemen does drive up the cost of a product, middlemen do provide valuable services for the manufacturer as well as for the customer. These services also help the economy, in that they provide jobs and careers for the people who provide them.

  3. I'm far from an expert

I think the development of the product stage is most important.

I think marketing is the most riskiest.

I think longevity of the idea/product hold the greatest profit potential.

I would think that all stage is critical to proper management.

A "middleman" is critical in getting the product out there.
