Question:

Need help with my Ducati Monster?

I just bought a 1998 Ducati monster 750. The previous owner said he didn't ride it much, so I'm thinking its inactivity might have created the problem. Anyway, It recently started running really sluggish, not responding to the throttle, not even idling. Off the line it accelerates really slowly, not passing 50mph and struggles in 5th gear. What could it be?? Please Help!

  1. ... and the easiest to try of all of them.... fresh gas

  2. Personally, before I launched into removing and cleaning the carbs, I'd try using some fuel system cleaner.  If you have already replaced the gas in the tank, you can just add the cleaner.  If you still have the original gas, drain that and replace with fresh fuel.

Two good fuel system cleaners are SeaFoam and STP.

If this doesn't work and you need to remove the carbs for cleaning be sure to install new fuel filter(s) like the ones at this link.

  3. Your carbs may well be gunked up. These must be removed and broken down to clean. You can not spray them clean.
