i dont know if he's a boy, but ill just say he. he's a tetra, i dont know what specific kind, only that he's silver and has a red pattern/dot above his eyes. used to be in my 20 gallon tank, but the other fish started picking on him. most of his fin were gone, and there was a cut in his side. i put him in my five gallon tank instead and the fish there arent bothering him. his fins have regrown, but there is a gaping hole in his side. it looks painful, but he is swimming fine. what should i do? is there any medicine i can give him to make it heal? thank you!! any advice will help =]

  1. What other fish were in the 20 gallon with it?  And which were picking on it?

Gaping hole on his side....that's not good.  I assume this was caused by the other fish, or maybe he cut it on something sharp in the tank while being chased by the other fish?  Either way, I would probably go ahead, based on your description, and do a treatment of an antibiotic.  I would look for a broad spectrum antibiotic,

    either Trisulpha:

    Or Maracyn Plus:

There's others as well, but those are the more common ones seen in pet stores.  Just be sure it's a broad spectrum that fights both gram positive and gram negative bacterial infections.  Most fresh water fish get gram negative bacterial infections, so usually tetracycline or Maracyn Two would be fine, but if that hole is as bad as you say, I think it'd be better covering all the bases and going with a med that treats both negative and positive infections to be safe.

And, that would probably be best done with the fish in a tank by itself.  Too much of a possibility for problems or infections with an open sore like that and other fish in the tank.

And I wouldn't add salt, tetras are a bit sensitive to it, might even kill him.  And, salt does not have antibacterial properties, so will not help in fighting infections.  There  is some talk that a bit of salt can help with a columnaris infection by not allowing the bacteria to basically "grasp" on to the fish, but I haven't read enough to say that yeah that's true, so I don't advise using salt for anything other then nitrite poisoning or ich/parasite treatments.

  2. level him up h**l become a gyrados

  3. use a little of aquaruim salt and there is also a kind of conditioner that helps heal wounds

  4. put ur tetra fish to another container, put lil bit of salt in it, rock salt helps to heal wounds and kills other bactria. and just observe for few days...

  5. put a teaspoon of aquarium salt in there,it`ll help it heal by keeping infection down.

  6. I suggest you use a little bit of aquarium salt and make sure you don't put him in a tank were there are allot of larger fish, because you will end up with the same problem.

  7. Try tetracylin, kind of popular medicine to cure for your fish from skin-disease.

Or you can ask fishshop for other kind of fish medicine, they will consult you.

With best wishes for your fish.
