I have a king snake that is refusing to eat for almost 4 weeks now. She seems to be in good health otherwise ( she hasn't changed her attitude or movement). I am just concerned that she wont eat. Should i keep trying or take her to a vet? Please help.

  1. Not to worry. Skip the vet unless you've got more money than sense. Kings can go months without eating as long as they have access to fresh water. I raise Cali. Kings and they routinely quit eating for months at a time for no apparent reason then resume with a vengeance. just offer food items once/week till she decides to start again.

  2. Well it is very rare to see a king snake not eat. I'm actually kinda surprise because my king snake ate the day after I brought it home and that was a 2 hour trip too.

But first try taking everything out of the tank. Just leave the water bowl and a hide-out in it for her. Then don't hold her for about a week to a week and a half(sometimes when people hold snakes before they are about to be fed, they sometimes won't eat because it stresses them out) Then after next week try feeding her again. Also when feeding her try dangling the mouse in front of her with a pair of tongs. Also make sure that the mouse is warm(not boiling het) And please don't feed her live feeders(for way to many reasons to list)

Also maybe try putting her into a small cage(ex: if she is 2-3 feet just put her in to a 10-15 gallon tank so she would be use to her surrounding more then most likely she would eat, then when she starts eating again, you can move her back into the tank she was in) but if she is in a small tank already then everything should be fine(the bigger the tank the more time the snake needs to get use to it's surrounding) And if she doesn't eat after all of that then just keep an eye on her. Make sure she isn't having trouble breathing or something has change but you haven't noticed it yet. Even the smallest change could make a huge difference.

But if she hasn't change at all then just don't worry about it for a while. But still keep up doing the following..1) leave her in the smaller tank, 2) don't hold her for at least 3-4 days before feeding day, 3) Always try dangle the mouse in front of her. Snakes can live up to 1 year without eating anything. So maybe after 2-3 months of not eating then I would take her to the vet just in case if there is something wrong with her.

Hope this could help! And I really do hope that your snake would be eating soon too!

PS- the guy on top ^^^ wow what is his problem? lol =]
