how do i get audio in surround sound when watching regular tv

i have a samsung 45 inch 1080p tv if that helps

  1. If you are using a terrestrial antennae you will need to connect your 2 channel stereo analog outputs to your receiver. They are your Left (white) and Right(red) rca outputs. This will only provide stereo and dolby pro logic surround. If you want true 5.1 surround you need to have a digital connection from your tv to your receiver. In this case you should have either an optical digital output or a coaxial digital output. It should be labeled "digital output". If your tv does not have a digital output then you will be limited to only stereo or Dolby prologic surround sound.

    If you are using satellite or cable then connect the digital ouput from those to your home theater receiver. You can still connect your tv the same as mentioned.


  2. Does your TV have an audio out put. You gave system details for the audio system but limited information about your TV

    Apparently your system plays DVD's at 1080i resolution which will play through your TV.

    Your system has 2 AUDIO inputs and out puts. Input the sygnal from the TV into one of them and see if the system which has sever decoders will recognize the signal.
