Question:

Need help with my zebra danios!?

I just got two zebra danios for a 3 gallon aquarium, and they seem to be doing extremely well; however, I was thinking about getting one more after reading that zebra danios are a schooling fish that enjoy being in groups of three or more. Now, I don't want to overstock my tank, and, being a college student on a tight budget and even tighter space, I can't invest in a larger tank. Is another danio out of the question, or would it be okay?

  1. In theory yes, but in reality no. I don't know if you've noticed but those Danios are very active swimmers, or they should be, and a 3 gallon does not, in anyway, allow for the amount of swimming space they really need. Zebra Danios need a tank around 2ft long or larger to allow them to swim, at least 20 gallons.

The only fish that can remotely live in a 3 gallon is a single betta (presuming it's filtered, cycled and heated, if not, nothing at all)

  2. another one should be fine but they like a long tank

i would get a kyathit danio if you can find them

    they will school with zebras

  3. 3 should be fine as they dont grow that big 2inchs 5 cms

  4. 1 more might be ok to have. But like above said, they are very active swimmers and really should be kept in tanks larger than that. In a 3 gallon tank you might be able to have a ghost shrimp for clean up crew. They are very light on the bio load, and stick to the bottom of the tank.

  5. JUST DO IT!

an inch of fish not including the tail for every gallon is the rule.
