Well I got 2 baby fire belly newts from my sister cause she had 4 of them, Well Ive never had a newt befor I have owned salamanders so I kinda know what Im doing. Well Im not really sure what to feed them cause there so tiny! I have some newt/salamander food that I got from the petsmart but I prefer live food but not sure what would be small enough for them to eat cause there tiny, any suggestions? Right now they are in a soda bottle with a chopped top, I will be getting them a 10Gal on friday. Also My sisters stuped boyfriend was messing with one of the newts when she had all 4 and he dropped him and hurt his back foot or somthing Of course my sister gave me the one he messed up and one thats not messed up, Well anyways I feel realy bad for the lil guy I was looking at him yesturday and It looks like he is missing a couple toes on his back foot, It really looks like it hurts You can see blood and its all white around it..Will he be ok? Im not sure what I can do to help him. I just feel so bad for him. I think he might be in pain cause he hasnt been moving much he has been in the same spot since Ive gotten him, I know they havnt eatten yet either they wont eat that c**p I bought from petsmart, what do I do? I took sum pictures of the lil guys/girls You cant see the one that has his foot hurting cause the way I took the pic but he is the one halfway in the water and on the rock, The healthy one is under the water.

  1. fruitflies, chopped earthworms, aquatic live foods such as bloodworms daphnia and tubifex

most newts wont eat newt pellets

also these newts have excellent healing powers in 6 months to a year u wont even be able to tell it was ever missin any toes. if u can find one see a specialist herps (reptile and amphibain) vet just to get him checked over for infections etc.

and have a read of this http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Cynops...

  2. It is hard to tell how big they are from the photo but i would say 1-2 inches. You could try crushing a little of the newt food into smaller pieces and see if they like that, or at the pet shop I worked we sold feeder guppies that I would feed to the newts in their set up.  Even the smallest newts would find small guppies to munch on. As far as the guy with the missing toes I'm sorry.

    Good luck
