need help with some chemistry questions.

Why are the melting and bioling points ofcovalent bonds usually lower than those of ionic bonds?

how do ionic and covalent bonding differ?

How does an ionic compound differ from a molecular compound?where is the charge located in a polyatomic ion?

  1. 1) The Ionic bonding has strong electrostatic forces of attractions, so all ions are bonded together by these bonds needing a huge Energy to break all that lattice. while Covalent compounds are bonded together by weak intermolecular forces.

2)Ionic is loss and gain of an electron from a metal to a non-metal making +ve and -ve ions, while covalent is the electron share between non-metals with no ion formation.

    3) Already answered that

4)there is nothing called polyatomic ion it's called radical like

SO4(2-) or NH4(+), the charge is on them all, for example

SO4(2-) the charge is distributed as follows S(6+) and O4(8-)

so the net charge is (2-)

  2. I Assume You Are Talking About Covalent Molecular Elements Or Compunds. When You Melt A Covalent Compound You Are Actually Breaking Very Weak Forces Of Attraction Between The Positive Protons In The Atom's Nucleus And The Outer Electrons In The Shells Known As Van Der Waals Forces. You Are Not Breaking The Actual Covalent Bond, Which Is Infact Very Strong.

  3. Covalent bonds have less links I believe or the bonds aren't as strong and so they break more easily. For alot of this you could look up Wikipedia.
