Hey,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help. I've made a claim for tax credits but they've contacted me and asked for my ex's NI number and Child Benefit number for our daughter (he claims it and puts it into her account). The only problem is he won't give me the information!!! Ive tried contacting tax claims and Child benefit but they won't help. Is there any where I can find this info? Or anyone that has had a similar experience?

  1. need to clarify things

You ex partner is getting Child Benefit and Tax Credits?

You have made a claim for tax credits? I presume he was getting it and then split up?

Only one person can get paid. the person with the care of the child should be getting Child Benefit, the person with child Benefit gets the tax credits.

If he was getting it and doesn't have the care of the child you need to dispute his award of Child Benefit and ask for it to be paid to you. Call the child benefit centre and advise them that you have care and want the benefit, they will send a form asking all about the childs care and decide who should get the benefit. Once you have Child Benefit then apply for Tax Credits asking for it to be backdated to the date of child benefit award
