Ok, so I'm very fast on court, but I constantly fail to return the ball when its played very low into me. I try to do sort of a scoop shot in the backhand position, but needless to say it fails quite a bit.

So what should I do in this situation?

  1. ok you can move fast but you need to tak the ball when it is at its hights if the person keep hitting the ball low i wod move into the net u are gaving the person alot of time to think about wot they are doing so u need to move in and gave them alot less time ? also move in when they are on the bak foot. if the ball is low u can try and tak it in the air but dont do it all the time as it is not the best shot lol moving in is always good

when the preson serv at u hit the ball and move in or hit the ball w8 4 it to come bak then hit it some were hard 4 the other person then move in then they will try to hard and not hit them so low lol

    hope it helps ya

  2. First of all, like others have mentioned, you need to maintain your balance and use proper footwork. For example, if somebody hits a slice to you, don't stand directly in front of the ball because it will make for an extremely awkward shot. Instead, move to the side a bit so you can make greater contact with the ball. Also, like others have said, bend down for a slice. Because most slice shots tend to stay low, you have to act accordingly and bend down lower as well. Doing so will allow you to hit underneath the ball, which I assume is what you want to do.

Also, many people have mentioned to return the sliced ball with a slice of your own. I definitely agree. The sliced return is probably the easiest shot to hit given the circumstances you described; once you bend low, hitting underneath the ball essentially will produce a slice. If you want to mix things up, though, I would recommend hitting a topspin return shot. Not only does it give you incredible margin and will drop in the court if hit properly, but you don't need to bend down as much as you would for a good sliced return.

  3. I'd recommend getting your body lower. You are probably just  not bending down when the low shot comes to you. When you bend down to the balls level you can slice, or lob. I wouldn't recommend trying topspin because you would have to bring the ball all the way above the net and that is very hard.

  4. So this is my suggestion.

First and foremost above all:  Move your feet, you say you are fast, prove it! haha.  Dont be caught hitting the a ball that isnt in your zone.  Actually, the truth is, on the return it doesnt matter how fast you are.  What matters is how fast you can Identify where the ball is coming, from there, you can adjust your feet to hit the ball in the right spot.

Secondly:  If and ONLY IF, you happen to get caught in this position after trying to move your feet, my suggestion is to block the ball back deep into the court.  I would say to the center of the court (this will cut down the angle your opponent can hit on the next shot).

I agree that a slice can be a good idea, but blocking back is safer (esspecially considering that you arent hitting the ball in the right spot).

  5. As first suggested, try to slice it, or underspin it. A lob is a good stroke also if you master the trade.

If you bend your knees low enough, you may even hit a winner.

  6. Try slicing the ball up. It is the right shot to play.
