  2. 7.  Resource conservation is a critical component of environmental and habitat.  By protecting resources utilized by a given ecosystem, then a dynamic equilibrium can be maintained  in that ecosystem.  Reduction or elimination of one or several resources has the potential to dramatically impact species diversity and survival.

    8. The Nature Conservancy is of personal interest.  This organization works with government and industry to purchase critical habitat and representative healthy ecosystems in order to preserve resources.

    9. Quagga, Tasmanian Tiger, Steller's Sea Cow, Irish deer, Dodo bird.

Steller's Sea Cow - Given the rapidity with which its last population was eliminated, it is likely that the arrival of humans in the area of its ecosystem was the cause of its extinction through hunting

    10.  Species would continue to go extinct without the influence of man.  As ecosystems change and animals evolve competitive advantages, those not able to adapt become extinct.  As ecosystems are being rapidly impacted by human activities, the sudden change is causing an increased pace of extinctions.  This rapid extinction of species decreases diversity.  Decreased diversity dramatically increases the risk that non-human factors, like disease, could throw an entire ecosystem out of balance and trigger mass extinction.
