me and my husband are closing on our house and i wanted to get some ideas for painting the living room and kitchen.... they have to go together because there is the main wall that connects the two together with no barrier to separate them... and my couches are like a three different color brown tweed... so it has to match that but i'm clueless as to what color or colors to use, or if ou have any other ideas that would be great.

  1. if you go to lowes...home depot, in the paint section they have little booklets that have like three or four coordinating color schemes on each page in books for you to look through

they will probally help out big time!

  2. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think "inviting ivory" (# 6372) would be the perfect color for the LR/kitchen. You can paint your foyer the same color, or for a slight difference, a light shade like "venetian lace" (# 7119) would look pretty.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  3. What type and color is the flooring, moldings, stair case framing, banister, light fixtures that are staying etc? Do you have any artwork or rugs you will be using in these rooms?

You want to tie this all together you might want to use two co ordinating rugs, or wall art and accessories to do that, a wall color could either come from these items or compliment them.

As a tip if the rooms are small and you want them to look larger choose a color close to the furnishings that will be seen in the line of sight when looking at the walls. This way the furniture will blend in with the background and that will make the space look larger. If you have a large enough space and you want to create depth, contrast the furnishing more.
