I am attempting to install a fan/light switch for the ceiling fan (it allows you to dim the lights or turn them off & to turn on the fan on,high, med, low, off). There are 4 wires on the device. 1 black with white stripe, one solid black, one green with yellow stripe and one blue. There are SEVEN wires in the wall. Three white, three black and one copper ground. I am supposed to attach the green wire to the ground. The three white wires seem useless so I capped them off together. The three black wires that are left have no defining marks so I have no idea which is which! How can I tell which wire does what? The black/white wire from the device is supposed to connect to the wall's "AC IN L" wire. The solid black wire from the device is supposed to connect to the wall's black "FAN" wire and the device's blue wire is supposed to connect to the wall's blue wire (which it DOESN'T have)Can anyone tell me how to wire this thing!? It's Harbor Breeze Universal Ceiling Fan & Light Control (130622)

  1. You will need to identify each wire in the box. I suspect you are on the right track so far,  locate the power lead first, use an analog meter or a solenoid type voltage tester.  Secure the power and then temporarily connect the power lead to one of the other blacks and then energize the circuit. Have someone observe what happens and then secure the power and finish the connections.  One the black wires in the box is what your device calls blue. The wires used in the US for home wiring does not have the colors that are used in other countries or in commercial electrical work.  If you still have problems call a qualified professional electrician.
