My cat is pretty wild. She lives outside and hates being picked up. You can pet her, but don't go too far! I desperately need to worm her, but don't know how to go about it. I don't want to be clawed to pieces. Any suggestions? I have already tried liquid wormer mixed with various delicacies and she won't touch it. I need to know of a good way to get a pill down her. She's a very finicky eater and won't touch canned food and won't even drink milk. She will only eat dry cat food. Help!

  1. You can buy a pill gun from your local vet. Wrap the cat in a blanket or towel (the towel is easier to wash.)  Pry open the cat's jaws by applying pressure on either side of the cat's jaw.  Quickly take the pill gun and put it into the cat's mouth and push the pill into the back of the cat's mouth.  If it goes far enough into the back of the cat's mouth, the cat should have no choice but to swallow it. Note: If you're not used to doing this, it might be rather hard the first time.

  2. How to Pill a Wild Kitty

Materials Needed: forceps, thick towel or rug, wormer

First, throw the towel over her head & body. Quickly scruff (grab the loose skin just behind her ears- harder if she's a fatty) her firmly & pick up her body using the towel as protection from her claws. This may take a few tries. Wrap the towel tightly aroundher body, securing it under your arm & leaving just her head out. Take her into the bathroom & close the door. Sit down. Force her to open her mouth. Take forceps & wormer pill & place @ the back of her throat letting the pill out & removing tool. Quickly close her mouth & feel for a swallow. It helps to put your finger over the nostrils for about 3-5 seconds while mouth is closed to make 'em swallow. Give her a nice treat afterwards.

  3. It sounds like you have a two-person job on your hands. Have one person wrap a towel around her and restrain her from the neck down. If you're using liquid dewormer, pry her teeth open with the syringe and put it at the back of her tongue, then squirt and close her mouth with your other hand. If a pill, open her mouth by gently squeezing the sides of her jaws and put the pill on the back of her tongue. I would think the liquid would be easier, though you risk the chance of her spitting a little of it back up out of spite. Good luck!

  4. I hope this helps: If you can find an accomplice, wrap the cat in a thick, large towel or a blanket. The front legs will need to be down by its sides like a human's arms when standing. The "holder" of the cat will need to be careful not to hurt it, but to hold it trightly - it will squirm ALOT. Put your fingers at the corners of the mouth and gently press to force mouth open, put pill it back of throat (without getting bitten) and hold mouth closed until it swallows. Try to do this all as fast as possible. You'll only get one shot a day or so, because it won't really trust you right after. This has worked for my husband & I.

  5. Revolution drops are great for defleaing, deworming, heart guard, ear mites. and preventing ringworm. You have to get it from your vet or order it online. .5cc per lb. You can use revolution drops on dogs as well.  You can feed it orally also. But it has a bad taste.

  6. You may want to stop wasting money and take your kitty to the vet for a dewormer shots.  There is also a new dewormer that goes on like advantage- a flea med that goes on the skin between the shoulder blades.
