Need help writing a short story?

if any of you have heard:

the who: a quick one while he's away

or those two really long songs on the american idiot album by green day, those are rock operas. they are short stories. i'm trying to write one for my band but i'm having trouble. any ideas? a mini opera if you please

Admittedly, my area of knowledge is more opera than "rock opera".   To really be an opera, short, long, rock, or non-rock, I suppose you would need a story that inspires you.  And it must be drama to be an opera.  Just narrating a story just makes a long song, not an opera.

The previous author's suggestions inspired some of my own:

High-school girls, and how they're really individuals with a value, feelings, and ideas of their own.  The importance of judging people by the content of their character rather than by the color of their skin--even when they're running for president.  The tragedy of 1.5 MILLION people dying because of the cruelty and military aggression of Sadam Hussain (but of course, those were mostly Arabs, so apparently not as imortant as 4000 American lives...), and a hymn of gratitude for how much cleaner our environment is today than it was 30 years ago...just a few ideas... : )

Treat it like any song, just flesh it out a bit more and give it more depth.

Write whatever interests YOU.

Examples:

High-school girls and the hot clothes they wear, the importance of having our 1st black president, soldiers dying everyday in Iraq for a Presidents lies and stupidity, a dying environment and nothing we can do about it...
