I am releasing my parental rights so my child's step-parent can adopt my son. This is in the best interest of my child. I shouldn't have had a child in the first place and I am an emotionally detached person with no close bonds to him. However, I do want what's best for him. I need this affidavit to be accepted by this judge for my son and so I can move on in my life. Also, my son and my ex-wife&her husband live 3000 miles away and there's been no contact with him other than an occasional phone call in the last two and a half years.

The judge wants me to write an informal short affividate in my own words that shows it's in the child's best interest and aligns with the following grounds for termination:

"There is no ongoing parent-child relationship and to allow further time for the establishment or reestablishment of the parent-child relationship would be detrimental to the best interests of the child."

  1. Just write what your heart tells you to write.  I applaud you for looking out for the best interests of your child.

  2. do so only under the advisement of an attorney.

  3. Put in your affidavit what you just wrote here.

The entire first paragraph of your question would be perfect for the affidavit.

I would also add that You love your son and because of that you think you should sign away your rights. You want him to be happy, healthy and secure with his parents. Explain that you feel your detachment to him would not change over time, and that you do not want to subject your child to that.

    Goodluck!
