I am getting 13 dollars a day to babysit a 5 year old girl at my house. Im 12 and she keeps me busy every hour of the day. I fed her and she takes naps, but is getting 13 dollars a day a little low. I babysit her 9 hours a day, 4 or 5 days a week.

  1. wow,

    your getting really underpaid.

since your only 12 and not a lot of parents want to leave theirs kid another kid,

    you should charge $4/h.

im 15, and i charge $5/h for one kid.

you should be getting paid around $36 a day if you charged $4/h.

you should talk to them and tell them that you feel underpaid.

  2. OMG i get about 13 dollars an hour!!!! You need to talk to her and set a rate for hour to hour not just get a price for the day!

  3. that is extremely low! you should charge her 5/hr minimum only because you are so young. if you babysit her 9 hrs a day 4 days a week i would charge her 200 a week. 5 days a week - 250 per wk.

  4. Talk to the parents about an hourly rate instead of a daily rate. $13 a day is to low for what you are doing. You're only getting about $1.50 an hour. I Hope I helped!!

  5. Sounds like she's taking advantage of your age. Regardless of how old you are, if she trusts you with her child, she should pay you more. Just tell her that you need to raise your prices or you can't watch her child anymore. It's not worth it.

  6. You can't tell her you need more, you struck a bargain for $13 a day, you have a contract.  One thing about 5 year olds they WILL keep you busy.  You should have found out how much others got for babysitting before you agreed to babysit this child and set your price accordingly.  At the age of 12 I am hoping that you have an adult present during the time you are baby sitting, if not both you and the mother of this child are breaking the law because in order to baby sit for more than a couple of hours a day you would have to be 14.

  7. You're getting much less than $5/hour which is the basic going rate for babysitting. However, your age may play a big role in this as you are only 12. I personally wouldn't trust my child with a 12 year old as they are still a kid as well.

You can definitely ask for more money, I wouldn't ask more than around $20-$25, but don't be alarmed if the mother/father denies you that. Another option is to find another child to care for and name your price at the beginning of your services so the parent knows what to expect.

  8. Is the child a family member or sibling?

Would your parents be okay with you not watching this child if they don't pay you more money?   I think $13 a day is way too low.  That being said maybe that is all her parents can afford, it's hard to say not knowing the situation.  I would talk it over with your parents, and see what they think you should do about the situation.
