Need horse sizing help!!?

I'm 5'5", 12 years old, and between 110 and 117 pounds. I am looking at a horse that is 15.1 hh and is a slightly stocky, Appendix mare. My trainer says she is worried about the size being too small, but I prefer smaller horses LOTS more. I am going to event with her. We were planning to see her soon, but my mom says we can't because she says it is pointless because the horse is WAAY too small. I know she is saying that only because my trainer was worried, because shortly after, she suggested that I started leasing this 12.2 hh pony at my other barn. How can she say this without even meeting the horse? For all I know, the owner could have made a typo. Also, is 15.1 ACTUALLY too small for me? For the past 5 years I have ridden a 13.2 hh pony, and although I look ridiculous on him, I still show him sometimes because he doesn't have any problems with my size or weight. PLEASE HELP!!!

  1. 15.1 is fine!!! I'm 5"4 and my second last horse was 14.2 he wsn't to small.........................

my last horse befor I  moved to the city was 15.2 and perfect!!! 16hh is only 2 inchs bigger you trainer is strange... I think were to small for a 17 monster I'd feel Like Im riding a skyscrapper

  2. I also like small horses but if you are going to use her for eventing you might want a larger horse. also you being 12 years old and already 5'5" you are probable going to get taller and want a larger horse any ways. When i was 12 i was alot shorter than you are (actually im 20 and only 5'4") but i was riding horses 16 + hands. if you are going to buy this horse you are not going to want to have to buy a new horse in a year or two just because you out grew her

  3. a 15.1 hand horse is not to small if your 5'5 i own a 15 hand paint mare and i'm 5'8 i don't look to big on her, as long as the horse has some width to them and muscle you'll be find.  why go lease a small pony when you're looking for a bigger horse.  you are the one who is going to ride and show this horse, always value other's opinions but in the long run if you and this mare get along great then don't worry about it

  4. its better to get a bigger horse rather then a smaller one. Because your 12 youll be doing a lot of growing over the next couple of years so if you get one that your trainer thinks is to small for you now imagine wat its going to be like in a couple of years.

  5. i think you should go with the 15hh horse, 15hh is not that small it'll be taller than the 13hh. you are the one who is gong to be riding the horse not you mum or trainer so as long as you are comfortable with the size etc of the horse.

  6. A 15.1hh horse is not too small I have a 15.2hh horse i'm 14 130 pounds 5'7 and i do eventing on him he is also not very stocky. It really depends on how muscular the horse is and what its endurance level is. Shoot i barrel race on a welsh pony gelding to this day.

  7. you are definatly not to big for a 15.1hh horse. and i mean your trainer saying you should lease and even smaller pony is quiet ridiculous. im 5'11' and i own and ride my 16.3hh thoroughbred. and i previously rode a 15hh horse.

just tell your mum you would liek to go see the horse and then she will change her mind when you get there and ride. beleive me it works.
