Need ideas for Grad School Project!!?

This semester I am going to be creating a research question/ project idea for me to work on the next couple years. My field of study is Gerontology, which is the science of aging and the social problems associated with aging. This field is associated more with sociology than other sciences. I would like to do a project that focuses more on the upsides of aging, and less on the sickness and death aspect. One idea I have had is something to do with online social networking, or technology. Any ideas are welcome!!

It would be interesting to study (perhaps with a qualitative instrument) the views that the elderly have on the progression of technology.  Specifically, I would ask questions to assess their comfort level with technology, then ask questions about their perceived barriers to learning and accessing newer technologies.  This study could help facilitate training programs geared toward the elderly that could bring them up-to-date. For example, my grandparents pay monthly to have internet service but don't know the first thing about using it.  To me, that suggests that they understand the importance of the internet, and the desire to have access, but lack the expertise in using it.  My grandfather carries a cell phone, and can answer it and hang it up, but doesn't know how to use the address book - never mind text messaging!

Maybe your study could provide the knowledge base for an online social network which could provide "technology tutorials".  The sky is the limit!  Best wishes in your research.
