my sons birthday is ocming up and my hubby and i both have large families, i have 6 siblings and he has 3 and my parents are divorced so that just doubles the amount of people. so, should i just have one big party for the entire family(about 70 ppl.) or have one around 11 a.m., one around 3 p.m. and one around 6 p,m, which would be alot for one day. and, if i have them all together, which i am thinking is the best idea, what should i serve? pizza and chips and a veggie/fruit tray or hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, potato salad and veggie/fruit tray. and one more thing, how much food should i get for 70 ppl.? would it be cheaper to skip the hotdogs and hamburgers and just buy wings at gordons market and some other appetizers. thanks in advance.

  1. For my daughters 1st Birthday we did a BBQ with our closest family and friends and had a swimming party too. Make sure to give him his very own birthday cake to tear up, that is a must! And lots of pictures!!!

  2. Have a petting zoo, my older sister had one and they had sheep, pigs, and dogs and you could feed them and that and the kids loved it. Maybe set out tables were the younger children could do finger paintings and a pinyatta.

  3. Have one party.  Have others contribute like a potluck.

Make it around his schedule.  Simplify... and enjoy.

  4. A one year old will not tolerate a lot. The party shouldn't go for more that 2 hours. Otherwise you run the change of a cranky, crying kid. If you want to invite all of your family at once, do a potluck. Ask everyone to bring a dish to pass. Then all you have to do is provide a main meat course, drinks and plates/silverware.

  5. Whenever I throw a birthday party for my kids, I serve the main dish and everyone else brings side dishes.  It works out great and there's always plenty that way.

Remember to also bring paper plates, forks, cups, and ice.

    Have fun!

  6. I had my son's 1st birthday with about 80 people and we served hot dogs and hamburgers.  I just put some people in charge of certain things.  But after that we just went to a pizza joint (some of them will give 10% to 20% discount for parties over 20 people) and ordered pizza's and soda's and let everyone that wanted to have beer buy their own.  I also know that Chuck E Cheese has a great birthday package. It's great they took care of everything from prepairing the food to clean up.  If I was you I'd do it all at once.  It's alot more fun with that many people getting together.

  7. pizza and chips/dip and veggies are fine/////////its a one year olds birthday......that should be good enough and thats up to you on how much you need to get

  8. Why don't you do the hot dogs & hamburgers and then have everyone else bring a dish (potluck).   We always do that so the parents don't have to dish out too much $$$$.  I would plan on about 50-60 each of the dogs/hamburgers/buns.  I would do one BIG party.
