Question:

Need ideas for basement ceiling?

The room is rather large over 450 sq. feet. It will be a game room and my teenage sons' bedroom. I need to be able to hide insulation, pipes, heating ducts etc. But those things also need to be accessible. The ceiling currently is less than 8 feet so a drop ceiling is not an option. Drywall seems like a good workable option, but how do you make the pipes accessible with it? Any ideas with wood that is not expensive? Or any other ideas that are reasonable in cost and easy to put up? Thanks in advance for helping!

  1. put some paneling up, prolly close to the same price as sheeetrock, and u can nail or s***w it up, will look good and if need to you can take it back down, and put it back up. lowes and home depot should have plain white sheets for about 10-15 for a 4x8 sheet so its not too bad and will still look like a ceiling.

  2. I have the same issue in my basement.   The previous owners installed drywall around pipes with an intake air vent in the area where we need to access pipes.  We just unscrew the vent and do the work we need and then put it back.   I thought it was a good solution.  I have painted the vents same color as either wall or ceiling, depending on its location and I dont notice them in day to day use.

  3. A friend of mines mom got some fabric and hung it up. It made it look homie but the pipes and things were accessable, and also did it for a gooooood price!!
