I need ideas. I want to do something with an f-86 and a mig-15 in a dogfight and the mig torn up with .50 cal rounds or something, during the korean war. I don't know if I should do a cockpit view or not. And how could I make the fight look intense? any ideas or do you know any important fights in mig alley I could do?

I also thought about doing one actual fight I saw on the show dogfights, where an f-86 and a mig-15 were barrel rolling around together, one on top of the other and cockpits facing eachother, and each were waiting for the other to slip in front so he could get shot, it was beutiful because it lookes like they were in sync with eachother. Do you know who the pilot was or when this happened?

  1. what about making it as an "over the shouder" view? like if seeing the lead F86 shooting from the wingman' view from a close formation i would choose a shallow dive, at about 20 degrees bank both mig and Sabre, or the Mig already loosing controls banking to either side about 50 degrees, burning.

  2. Here's a link to some existing F-86 art:

  3. I would do a wingman view, behind, below, and to the side of the F-86 that is pursuing the Mig-15.  Don't include any details of the wingman's cockpit, just his viewpoint.  The barrel roll scenario would be very cool too.

If it was MY art project I wouldn't put any battle damage on the Mig-15, just show the F-86 trying to get the angle and the Mig-15 trying to get away.

To add an interesting effect, put about 50% clouds in the background and show the ground or horizon at an interesting angle (although historically, the Mig-15 usually ran away uphill).

I've read some interesting stories of melees that happened over the Yalu that involved something like 100 aircraft at once.  Almost like the Flying Circus.

  4. Cockpit view is pretty boring as an art project. Study the aviation art that you see. There should be lots of galleries online.

As you said, it's Korean War, which narrows the year pretty well.
