  1. Good question, our district has now deveoped a no sweet treat policy, I hear it is statewide b/c of over weight kids but here's my thought...that is a parenting issue, not a school's. The PTO often rewards students with small treats throughout the year as well as ot school parties (3x's per year) So from now on we cannot serve nor can parents bring any cupcakes, cookies, or candy. Not even to student b-day celebrations. I can agree with the removal of vending machines in older grades with all the soda and candybars but what do they really think will happen? I plan to send my kids to school with lunches that I would normally send but do I risk them getting their little debbie snacks taken away? I feel that to answer this question you should do as I will, take home treat bags with the goodies and classroom invites to have cake and ice cream at another location. As long as parents accept the push we are getting from public schools to get out...the more these rules will get placed I am for keeping kids in line but to these extremes it is controlling and out of line.

  2. Popcorn, pretzels, raisins.

  3. Rice Krispie treats with raspberries or another kind of fruit...yummy!!!

  4. Wow that sucks.  Just send a fruit basket.  Whole fruit not cut up will be okay.  Apples and Oranges and stuff.  Thats so stupid why can't the kids have cupcakes?

  5. How about some homeade oatmeal cookies or something like that? You could make them organic or you could make some granola but I bet kids would like the cookies better. You could also do some beef jerky.

  6. Can you keep anything in a cooler with some ice? Most healthy foods require refrigeration....

Rice Krispies treats (I like to add 1 tsp cocoa powder & m&m's)

    Sun Chips

Cupcakes (made with blueberry muffin mix instead of cake batter)

    Rasins

    Fruit Roll ups

One thing that we make at all family gatherings is "spicy rollups" (they're not actually spicy though):

    8 oz FF cream cheese

Smallest container (either 6 or 8 oz) sour cream *

    8 oz shredded cheddar cheese

1 packet Ranch seasoning (the powder one that you make dip w/)

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (believe me, it does not make the dish more spicy than a potato chip. Just adds mild flavor)

    Tortillas

Let cream cheese soften. Mix all ingredients together with beaters until smooth. Spread over tortillas and roll them each up into a pinwheel shape. Refrigerate overnight. Slice into 1/2 inch thick pinwheels the next day. Stores up to a week. Needs to be kept in coller or lunchbox w/ a little ice.

*(don't use FF sour cream, it becomes too runny)

  7. Most schools don't let you send in homemade treats.

I'd suggest some sort of crackers like goldfish crackers-they have lots of types-pretzel, cheese, pizza, flavor blasted cheese, multi-colored.

The multi-colored would be fun for birthday.

Alternatively a fruit snack-gummy or roll-ups would be fun.

You could send some frozen juice boxes and they would be the right temp probably by serving time.

  8. I think you should make some no bake cookies, make them and put them in the fridge for the whole night and in the morning until he has to go or keep it in the fridge until a certain time and then go and bring them into his class.

  9. fresh unrefrigerated fruit; bananas, apples, raisins, carrots

lo fat triscuits, baked wheat thins, raisin bread

  10. Individual Zucchini cupcakes...add shredded apple & raisins to them, they will be moist and good for the kids....no need for frosting.

  11. Come on  Bake something like cookies  cakes  brownies  cupcakes. Sliced apples with honey they do have substitutes for sugar.  Diabetics have baking cook books   Look up Recipes up on the internet I am sure you can come up with baked goods low in calories

  12. Sliced apples and caramel dip? It's tasty and nutritious. All you have to do to keep the apples from going brown ( just change of colour, doesn't mean they're bad) just dab some lemon juice on them.

  13. banana cup cakes
