Need ideas for husband's 30 suprise birthday party?

My husband is turning 30 this June and I really want to do a suprise party for him. It would be just around 15 of his close friends. I'm thinking about doing something at home. He is not much into any hobbies, but he loves electronics and computers. I don't care much for a theme, but would like some fun activity ideas, including food? He loves people and is very social, so I figured he'll enjoy a party thrown for him!

  1. He seems like a laid back kind of guy, so I think I'd just go for a laid back surprise party. Invite his close friends and serve his favorite foods or heavy finger foods like chicken wings, pizza rolls, potato skins, deviled eggs, finger sandwiches, chips, dip, fruits, veggies, and of course dessert! For activities, there are a lot of fun boardgames out there that a lot of people can play like Pictionary, Taboo, Catchphrase, and Loaded Questions (these are all great for adults and can provide hours of fun).

  2. no one's answered this after 49 minutes how odd!

I came just to see what the answers were - I love parties, especially themed parties, but I don't like buying a lot of stuff.

I think that perhaps you could hire a room and then say you're taking him out for a meal - or have 15 people next door with your neighbour's.

what about, if you know your neighbour well, getting your neighbour to phone call and say 'oh dear! can you come right on over?'

I think you could get M&S to do the catering, or waitrose.

They both do stuff you never think of.

fun activity for me is sitting down and using my brain, but that's not to everyone's taste, so what about this game? I last played it 51 years ago. (I am showing my age).

You cut adverts out of newsapers  newspapers even and then, having cut out the name of the product or who makes it, pin it up somewhere.

you could do a themed quiz - that is, after everyone has done the first part, they eat, and while they are eating you put up the second part. winner gets a bottle of booze. well I don't go to a lot of partries - even parties these days, but good luck in any case.

    30 is a lovely age.

  3. maybe you can have a short party at a local electronics store then off to a bar for a few drinks!? he would be really surprised to walk in and see all his friends at Best Buy or the Apple Store or something! Maybe if you have it at the Apple store they can have someone show you guys all the new stuff and test it all out for a bit. otherwise you could have it at a arcade and everyone can play a few games then back to your house for some drinks. maybe play a DVD trivia game at home also. send out invites that look like a computer with the "You're invited to Jim's Surprise 30th" on the screen.

  4. Throw him a "Dirty 30" birthday party.  Serve Dirty Martinis as the main drink for your guest.  Have all your guests wear a trashbag you have cut out for arm holes and head hole with big "DIRTY 30" plastered on the front of them.  Or tell your guests to dress up as bums if they are up for it! (You are talking to a theater director here, so my friends normally live for this stuff).  Also serve "DIRT" as the dessert, you can get a great recipie on cooks.com!  Have fun!
