Need ideas for storyline?

Question

a girl is engaged with a wealthy man and plans to move to a foreign country. the mother is strongly opposed to the decision and wants to devise a plan to stop her daughter. one idea is that she tells the man his daughter is only marrying him for money. other ideas? any appreciated

She could try to seduce him, to prove he's not faithful enough for her.

She could get someone to sue him for something (maybe his big business is hurting someone), so he's not so rich anymore.

the mother could pretend to be dying and then say that when she told her daughter's fiance that she was ill he laughed or something and was still intent on going away and then the daughter may see this as an opportunity to get the mothers life insurance and so stays and looks after her mother and doesnt go away so that she can get the money and isnt disinherited or something lol i dunno :)

She could say she's using the fiancee to get to someone close to him that she loves instead.

That's a tough one because anything the mother tells her daughter regarding his person won't affect the girl because she, apparently, doesn't give a d**n. The mother has to affect the guy's job or finances somehow, to block the flow of it.

I have a feeling it'll turn into a comedy novel.

Or you can have the mum finally resolving to let the marriage go ahead. If she's happy and if the man's happy then how can her mother deny them that, even if it's all an illusion? Somewhere down the track, the man is bound to find out the lie of their love (unless he married the girl for another selfish, personal reason of his own) which will probably end their relationship, hence, teaching the girl a lesson.

     If the daughter's over 21, there's nothing the mother can do.  The problem is that whatever she says or does, she risks bringing both of them closer together, not farther apart.  If she knows the daughter's marrying just for money, she should confront her and tell her that the marriage will be on the rocks in no time if money is the only lure.  Perhaps gather both the prospective son in law and her daughter together and drop the bomb about the girl marrying for money.  You'd have a fine old conflict then.
