Question:

Need ideas on how to cover up a projector mounted from the ceiling in our new theater room we just built?

it hangs down about 2-3 feet from the ceiling, and my husband has bundled the excessive cord together in the back, but it still looks ugly just hanging there. We can't afford anything expensive, but just an idea to help cover it up ( around the sides and back of course).

  1. The big issue will be preventing heat buildup. Any enclosure would have to have ventilation. I'd suggest a simple plywood box ((1/8" veneer oak might be nice) hung from 2"x2" on the ceiling, and framed around three sides of the projector. Probably not necessary to do the bottom or front. Maybe put a computer case fan near the ceiling to be sure air is drawn in around the projector.

For a fairly fancy idea (one used for a CRT projector), see the pictures at the link. You don't need anything that fancy .. but it may give you some ideas.

  2. Reconsider the alternative of removal of the projector from the ceiling mount and placement of the projector on a coffee table or small stand at the back of the room which is easily coverable.  Leaving an upside down mounted ceiling projector creates terrible cooling problems for the motherboard to become overheated, unless you leave the projector in an erect and upright position.  The coffee table alternative solves the issue  of dangling cables and wires.

    Good luck!
