My son has autism and attends a specialized program. His class has a teacher and two aides. He is also especially close with his speech therapist and two other aides that were in his class but were recently rotated to another room. I want to give each person a holiday gift, but an stumped as well limited by funds! Last year, I found wonderful ornaments that could hold photos and put quotes on teaching special ed, autism, speech, etc inside and they were a huge hit! I could do that again for a few of the people as they are new, but several of them recieved that gift last year. I tend to bake for them as well, but have a new job this year so do not want to count on doing that as time seems to be sneaking away from me more often than it did before! Thanks

  1. PROJECTORcheap and best.

  2. I agree with Mary. Homemade gifts for teachers are extremely special. Some good sites are Better Homes and Garden and Family Fun. They both have no-cook dough recipes and the recipe for the cornstarch clay. My daughter has a blast with these and cookie cutters.

  3. You could write a letter to the Superintendent and school committee, acknowledging these teachers and aides for the good job they are doing and impact they have made on your son's life.Everyone likes their boss to know they are meeting or exceeding their job requirements. In our town, the school committee meetings are televised on the local channel, and a letter like this, would be read on TV.You could make copies for the teachers and school principal, tied with a red ribbon or something festive like that.

  4. If there is reasonably priced restaurant near the school, then see about gift certificates.

  5. I know one of the things that stand out in my head as something special that someone did before the holidays was during the last week of school one of the parents brought in Starbucks coffee for all the classroom workers with handmade cards. Everyone is getting antsy that least week and the weather was cold and it felt really special when they brought in the big carafe with some homemade cards from the kids just saying we were appreciated. IF you are strapped for time this may only involve a small art project and leaving for school 15 min. early to stop at a coffee shop. Homemade gifts are always welcome also. I always find we get too many sweets... but just like being thought of.

  6. My son is also autistic, some things I have sent in as gifts:

earrings (you can get 10k or 14k gold earrings at KMart for under $20, just watch for the 70% off jewelry sales, they have them all the time)

    candles

    bath and body works items

    christmas ornaments

    teacher figurines

    chocolate truffles

    cookies

  7. Barnes and Noble gift cards.  maybe $5.00 each.  They get enough of those and they can get great stuff.

  8. I use to be a preschool teacher and the best gifts I recieved were ones that were homemade.

Example.  Get some wooden ornaments and have your son paint or put glitter on them. You can go to any craft store and find great Christmas crafts for dirt cheap.

Then on the card you say "Made with love from "your son's name" They will love it and I promise they will always cherish it. I know I still have many gifts my students made me :)

Hope this helps - and Happy Holidays!
